Skybound/Beamdog

Project Details

Skybound alongside Beamdog released console and pc video games based on the classic Dungeons & Dragons table top game. The project was made up of a lot of items, from the game itself to limited edition cards, a map and pins. A series of pins were created all corresponding to their respective version of the game and this was my portion of the project to complete

The Beamdog project was a multi medium job that needed many people to work on the collectors pack. Depending on which phase of the project was in the responsibilities were split accordingly, for most of the project my job was to create the illustrations that were going to be converted into pins. I had key art to work from and so the plan was to create loose sketches to get a sense of the shapes needed to make the ultimate color separation easier for the pin maker and use the key art as reference while tracing the drawings digitally

Results

The illustrations were going to be printed as 1″ x 1″ pins which I had to take into account when deciding how much detail and how thick the outline of the pins would actually be. The pin maker let us know how much detail we could include and how thick the black outlines lines had to be, luckily we were told we could an incredible amount of detail and so that resulted in illustrations that were intricate but also printable

My thoughts on the project

Having the chance to work substantially in Adobe Illustrator was a refreshing change of pace. I have always liked to work in the platform but to do it to this scale on one project was definitely a learning experience both in technical understanding of illustrator but also in its creative and workflow capabilities. The project was an incredibly fun undertaking and renewed my love of illustration
